This story will open your mind and your heart. This novel deals with acceptance, both when it comes to being open to each other, as well as to your own self. Although readers can sense Callie’s discomfort with everything that’s going on around her, it’s an empathetic honesty that makes her such an appealing character. Throughout the entire story, there’s a sense of hope and encouragement. It shows how she sees her world and how she views her own self. The way it is written gives a quiet beauty to Callie’s story. The novel is written in multiple ways, but always through Callie’s point of view. It doesn’t help that her mom keeps moving their family around, something that Callie is so sick and tired of doing. She has Tourette syndrome and with that comes a lot of challenges when it comes to making friends. The novel follows Calliope June as she is navigating life at a new school.
